What happened:
A 3.1 magnitude earthquake hit Oak Hill (longitude 82.6 W) in Ohio, just north of Kentucky, on February 3, 2025. I had thought it to be an earthquake with a magnitude of at least 4.0, but it turned out to be a very small earthquake.

What is happening:
In the Île-de-France region, all departments—Paris, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne and Val-d'Oise—are under yellow vigilance on January 27, 2025, for wind and thunderstorms as Storm Herminia strikes. More vigilance is also advised on January 28, 2025. (It is however the city of Rennes, 350 km to the west of Paris, that has suffered severe flooding.)

Storm Éowyn is expected to hit England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland on January 24, 2025. London and southeast England as well as the Shetland Islands are all under an "amber warning." Heavy rain has also been forecast in northeastern France.

What is happening:
On January 22, 2025, an M4.2 earthquake struck at around 3:30 am local time, and thereafter an M4.7 earthquake happened at around 11:30 am local time in the Fiji Islands region. Both earthquakes, though, had the epicenter at depths of more than 540 km, thus these were not strong earthquakes.

What happened:
On January 19, 2025, almost at 11 pm India time, an earthquake struck precisely near the India-Xinjiang border, that is, near the Kashmir-Kashgar border. The earthquake was measured at 4.2 on the Richter scale.
Then, on January 20, 2025, soon after 11 pm India time again, an earthquake again struck in this vicinity, this time near the city of Leh, near India-Tibet border. The earthquake was measured 4.3 on the Richter scale.

What has happened:
On January 13, 2025, an M6.9 earthquake occurred in Miyazaki Prefecture, and had an intensity of lower 5 on the Japanese scale of 0 to 7 in the hardest-hit areas. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami advisory for Miyazaki and Kochi prefectures. An M4.5 earthquake also did strike near Tokyo, on January 16, 2025.

A cyclonic circulation formed in the Southeast Bay of Bengal, which made the India Meteorological Department issue a heavy rainfall alert in Tamil Nadu during January 11-12, 2025, and subsequent light to moderate rainfall as well as thunderstorms in particularly the Bay of Bengal coastline of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the period January 12-14, 2025.

What happened:
Kazhydromet has issued a three-day weather report which promises snow and blizzard for Kazakhstan's northeast and east, due to a cyclone, during January 11-13, 2025. On January 13, 2025, a new wave of the cyclone is forecast to approach western regions, which will result in sleet, rain and icy-road conditions. Earlier, a number of outbound flights experienced delays at the Almaty International Airport due to inclement weather on January 8, 2025, including snowfall and fog. Note that till January 8, 2025, the country had been experiencing mild, warm weather.

Northern Madagascar, Cyclone Dikeledi
